The star attraction of this region is the breathtaking Devkyara Meadow, a vast alpine expanse perched at an elevation of 4,100 meters. This lush meadow is not only a scenic delight but also a dream camping spot.

The trek to Obra Gad offers a rich blend of cultural and natural beauty. The trail also rewards you with spellbinding mountain views — among them, Rangnala Peak stands out with its majestic presence at 5,400 meters, surrounded by unnamed yet awe-inspiring ridgelines.

Obra Gad Trek – Detailed Itinerary


Day 1: Dehradun to Sankri (210 km | 7–8 hours)

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Dehradun Railway Station to Sankri. This 210 km route takes about 7–8 hours and offers a feast for the eyes — lush valleys, winding rivers, and distant mountain peaks.

You’ll drive past the Yamuna River, Tons Valley, and picturesque towns like Mussoorie, Damta, Nowgaon, Netwar, and Purola. Watch locals at work in the terraced fields and enjoy the transition of vibrant green landscapes.

After crossing the entry gate of Govind Wildlife Sanctuary, Sankri is just 15–20 minutes away. As you approach, you’ll see snow-capped peaks, including the Baraadsar mountain range.

Sankri is a quaint Himalayan village with wooden houses and a small market. Here, enjoy traditional mountain meals and spend the night in a cozy hotel surrounded by peaceful, pollution-free nature.


Day 2: Sankri to Jakhol (Drive – 19 km), Jakhol to Obra (Trek – 6 km | 4–5 hours | 2,500 m)

After breakfast, drive 19 km to Jakhol, a village in the Mori region. The trail to Obra Gad begins here, spanning 6 km through forested hills and charming Himalayan hamlets.

Packed lunch will be provided along the way. As you walk through the mountain villages, take time to interact with the locals — their unique traditions and warm hospitality are truly enriching.

Cross through Baincha Thach, where you’ll find small fields and a beautifully crafted temple. Your campsite lies just 1 km ahead in a wide, open meadow — the perfect place to pitch your tents and relax under the stars.


Day 3: Obra to Bhawa (8 km | 5–6 hours | 3,500 m)

Today’s trek takes you 8 km higher through thick forest trails into the alpine zone. As you emerge from the woods, you’ll be greeted by wildflowers and open grasslands.

Bhawa is the high point of the ridge that splits the Obra Valley. From here, you can spot Fithari village to the north and Devkiyara off to the right. Set up camp in this peaceful meadow and rest for the night.


Day 4: Bhawa to Devkiyara (5 km | 4–5 hours | 4,100 m)

Today’s 5 km trek is one of the most scenic. Walk along soft grassy slopes until you reach Devkiyara Meadow — a stunning alpine expanse about 4 km in length.

From this meadow, enjoy views of towering peaks like Daowdu (5,500 m) and Rangnala (6,100 m). A few remote villages lie visible in the distance, enhancing the serenity of your campsite. Camp here for the night amidst pure Himalayan beauty.


Day 5: Devkiyara to Obra (13 km | 8 hours | 3,500 m)

After breakfast, descend 13 km from Devkiyara back to Obra. The trail passes through enchanting meadows and thick forests.

Near the Obra River, you’ll visit the sacred Obra Temple, built by the villagers in honor of Lord Someshwar. Every year, a local pilgrimage takes place from Jakhol to this temple, keeping cultural traditions alive.


Day 6: Obra to Jakhol (Trek – 6 km | 4–5 hours), Jakhol to Sankri (Drive – 19 km | 2 hours)

Retrace your steps through the forest and meadows to reach Jakhol. En route, you’ll pass Dhara, a significant spot where a large Someshwar Temple stands to the right of the Supin River.

Once in Jakhol, take a short drive back to Sankri. Enjoy warm food and spend your final night in the peaceful setting of the Sankri village.


Day 7: Sankri to Dehradun (210 km | 7–8 hours)

After breakfast, begin your return journey to Dehradun. Relive the beautiful memories of the trek as you make your way back through the valleys and villages.
