Overview
Nalgan Pass Trek – A Hidden Gem in the Himalayas of Uttarakhand
The Nalgan Pass Trek is a stunning high-altitude trail nestled between the Garhwal and Himachal Himalayas. Located at an impressive height of 4,978 meters, this lesser-known pass offers an immersive trekking experience through untouched natural beauty and diverse landscapes. Starting near the Himachal border, the trail introduces you to a rich variety of flora and fauna, making it a perfect escape for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike.
A unique feature of this trek is the opportunity to explore the sacred Baraadsar Lake (4,300 meters) or Kanasar Lake (4,600 meters), both revered by locals and believed to fulfill wishes. These mystical lakes lie amid high ridges and remain hidden treasures, still untouched by mass tourism.
Situated within the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park in the Uttarkashi district, this trail offers everything a trekker could dream of — lush green meadows, serene alpine lakes, and a climate that soothes the soul. The serenity and spiritual aura of this region make it an unforgettable journey.
Breathtaking Views from Nalgan Pass
From the summit, trekkers are rewarded with panoramic views of the Garhwal and Kinnaur ranges, with snow-covered peaks stretching across the horizon. One of the major highlights en route is the remote Kanasar Lake, surrounded by towering ridges and dramatic scenery.
The trail takes you through mesmerizing meadows, across high ridges, and deep into the heart of the Himalayas. However, this trek is not recommended for beginners due to its moderate to difficult terrain. The journey requires physical fitness and a spirit for adventure.
As you ascend, you pass through vibrant valleys and cross a ridge separating the Rupin and Supin valleys. The landscape gradually transforms into a barren stretch filled with rocky boulders, leading to the awe-inspiring summit. The views from the top are truly captivating — a sweeping vista of snow-draped mountains that leave every visitor spellbound.
