Overview
The Kuari Pass Trek is packed with a variety of adventurous experiences, making it an ideal choice for thrill-seekers in the Uttarakhand Himalayas in 2025.
Situated in the Chamoli District of Uttarakhand’s Garhwal Himalayas, the Kuari Pass offers breathtaking views and is a gateway to one of the most dreamlike trekking destinations. This trek, which connects South Tibet to the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve, was first explored by Lord Curzon during the British era, earning it the name “Curzon Trail.”
If you’ve ever dreamed of standing on the edge of a mountain at 12,516 ft, gazing at panoramic views of snow-covered peaks, then Kuari Pass is the perfect trek for you. The trek balances moderate difficulty with world-class scenery, making it a favorite among both beginners and seasoned trekkers. The views of prominent peaks such as Nanda Devi, Trishul, Dronagiri, Kamet, and Chaukhamba make it one of the best winter treks in the Uttarakhand Himalayas.
The trek begins in Dhak village and winds through ancient oak and rhododendron forests, across expansive high-altitude meadows (bugyals), and up to a panoramic summit where the giants of the Indian Himalayas stretch across the horizon. But Kuari Pass is not just about reaching the summit; it’s about the moments in between—walking through whispering forests, camping under starlit skies, and experiencing the warmth of remote Himalayan villages. Along the way, you’ll discover local culture, taste traditional food, and connect with the Garhwali heritage that thrives in these valleys.
Whether you trek in the quiet of winter or the vibrancy of summer, Kuari Pass offers a unique experience in each season. From frozen streams and powdery trails to blooming meadows and sweeping valley views, this trek is a visual and emotional journey that will stay with you long after your return.
