Overview
Historical and Mythological Significance
Bhrigu Lake is named after the ancient sage Bhrigu, one of the Saptrishis (seven great sages in Hindu tradition). According to legend, Sage Bhrigu meditated at this site, and the lake became sacred due to his presence. It is believed that the lake never freezes completely, even in harsh winters, as a blessing from the sage. Pilgrims often visit the lake, believing that Sage Bhrigu still visits occasionally to meditate.
The lake holds immense religious importance for the locals, who consider it a holy site for pilgrimages. Some believe that the gods once gathered here for religious ceremonies, and it is thought that a dip in the lake cleanses one’s soul and frees them from sins.
